The Butterfly of Chula Vista

The Butterfly of Chula Vista by Giovanni Ortega follows Libertad, a Mexi-Pino (Mexican-Filipino American) as he embraces his many layers by performing at Divina's BaranGay & Grill in Chula Vista. This heartfelt and fast-paced comedy touches on powerful themes about familial duty, identity, and acceptance. Libertad discovers freedom and belonging with a drag persona which conflicts with nursing school. The show includes songs from karaoke hits (in English, Spanish, and Tagalog) and themes of family, identity, and acceptance during Filipino American History and National Hispanic Heritage Month.
