The Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Queerceañera Returns Oct. 5, Celebrating Latinx Heritage with Drag Superstar Kandy Muse

Hosted by LA icon Salina EsTitties, the celebration is an inclusive spin on the traditional quinceañera and spotlights LA’s LGBTQ+ Latinx community.

Presented by Angel City Football Club

LOS ANGELES, September 18, 2024–On October 5th, the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s second annual Queerceañera returns for a celebration bigger and bolder than ever. Spotlighting LA’s queer Latinx community, Queerce will once again offer a gender and expression-inclusive reimagining of the quinceañera tradition. RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Salina EsTitties will preside as the inaugural Madrina (“godmother” in Spanish) of ceremonies for the larger than life soirée on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 6:00–10:30PM.

RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Kandy Muse will be honored at the event organized to benefit Mi Centro, a sanctuary for Latinx LGBTQ+ individuals in Boyle Heights and surrounding eastside communities formed in partnership between the Los Angeles LGBT Center and Latino Equality Alliance.

Queerceañera, or Queerce (queer-seh) for short, is a community cotillion rooted in accessibility and unbridled celebration; quinceañeras are often regarded as out-of-reach status symbols, and the event breaks the rigid gender norms and structures of said celebrations. Building on 2023’s massive inaugural launch, Queerce is a lively culturally immersive experience that blends traditional customs with a modern twist.

“I’m a gay, Afro-Latino performance artist from the South Bronx–baby, there’s no part of me that isn’t proud of where I come from and where I am going. Los Angeles is now my second home; I’m so honored to accept this year’s Queerceañera title and share my story, dreams, and love with my community–mi gente,” said drag superstar and honoree Kandy Muse.

Uplifted with the support of major sponsors, as the tradition of quinceañeras typically go, the tiaras, gowns, and lashes get the Hollywood treatment for a dramatic presentation you won’t want to miss. Alongside a heartwarming stage program in Renberg Theatre, guests will enjoy an editorial portrait studio, booming dance floor, complimentary food rooted in Latin flavors.

“Angel City Football Club is a proud partner of the Los Angeles LGBT Center, an organization committed to the health, wellness and joy of priority communities that make up our great city of LA,” said Catherina Dávila, ACFC’s Head of Community and Marketing. “Queerceañera is a vibrant depiction of LA’s diverse experiences anchored by the cultural tastemakers pushing the boundaries of contemporary LGBTQ+ latinidad.”

The evening will conclude with a post-program offering cocktails and a special ‘court’ dance with LA-nightlife-favorite Queerchata.

Free food vouchers will be available to the first 100 guests to check in. The event is all ages, guests 21+ will receive a wristband at the door. For more information and RSVP, click here or visit lalgbtcenter.org/queerce.
