Los Angeles LGBT Center to Host Second Annual  Boyle Heights Block Party with Sabor de Mi Centro on July 8

Sabor de Mi Centro is a vibrant summer celebration centering the Latine

community of LA’s Eastide served in partnership with the Latino Equality Alliance

LOS ANGELES, July 3— On Saturday, July 8, the Center’s Mi Centro community center in Boyle Heights will host the return of the “Sabor de Mi Centro” block party. The Pride-themed celebration lifts Latine LGBTQ+ experiences through a lively lineup of local performers, cultural gastronomy, and dancing. Admission is free with programming and onsite health services will be available from 12:00 — 5 p.m. To encourage the curb of Mpox cases in Los Angeles, vaccinations will be available, with the first 150 registrants qualifying to receive American Express gift cards.

Local performers include Cheer LA, Ellas Rock Band, and drag performers Crystal Angelina, BiBi Discoteca, and Fresas Con Crema. Sabor de Mi Centro includes food, music, raffles, and fun activities for the entire family.

“Mi Centro is the Eastside’s dedicated space to hold community, provide immigration support, and offer culturally competent, LGBTQ-specific services for the whole family. Our clients face mounting challenges from rollbacks on healthcare, education equity and basic civil rights,” said Caín Andrade, Mi Centro’s Program Manager. “This event showcases the resiliency and power of our communities and shines as a lifeline partnership with the Latino Equality Alliance.”

Since opening in 2015, Mi Centro has become a vital lifeline, especially among Spanish-speaking Angelenos, to access reliable mental health treatment, legal assistance, HIV testing, and culturally informed events. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, it slowed some of Mi Centro’s hard-earned momentum. Sabor de Mi Centro’s programming is part of the community site’s reintroduction to familiar faces and new ones alike.
