Current Campaigns

Center Advocacy Milestones

2008: Volunteers changed hearts and minds by canvassing across California to fight the hateful and unconstitutional Proposition 8 that banned same-sex couples from getting married.

2013: The Center played a lead role in the reauthorization of the federal Violence Against Women Act, ensuring that it now includes explicit protections for LGBT people, then the only federal law ever to do so.

2015: The Freedom to Marry became the law of the land. In a 5-4 decision, the United States Supreme Court ruled in the case of Obergefell v Hodges that the U.S Constitution guaranteed the right to marry for same-sex couples. The Center hosted a massive rally in West Hollywood, attended by thousands and covered by worldwide media.

2017: The Center mobilized hundreds of community members to fight the repeal of the Affordable Care Act when former President Donald Trump tried to take away healthcare from 32 million Americans.

2018: The Center successfully advocated for AB 2119, ensuring that foster youth have the right to access gender affirming care.

2019: The Center successfully advocated for the inaugural Lesbian, Bisexual and Queer (LBQ) Women’s Health Equity Fund, urging the State of California to allocate $17.5 million to the first of its kind government funded services for LBQ women.

2020: Our work talking with voters in Philadelphia suburbs contributed to the highest voter turnout in the city in 25 years!

2022: Organizers mobilized a team of callers to help get the vote out in Georgia. After years of Trump supporters crying election fraud, Georgians from all over the state showed up in a run-off from a midterm election to fight for a democracy that is reflective of the values held at the Center.

2023: In response to a jarring wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation—most of it anti-trans—the Center mobilized more than 40 community partners in a “Drag March” that swept West Hollywood; more than 2,500 participants showed up and heard from community activists, Center employees, and (of course) drag artists.
