With humor and poise, Laura Stearns presents an inspiring story about taking on the systems of power. Co-created with Chuma Gault, These Things Happen is based on the landmark court case where Stearns exposed a notorious abuser, challenged the institution that protected him, and confronted the community that turned a blind eye. This one-person play with music takes audiences on the unexpected journey Stearns’ life took that challenged her understanding of what it means to be an artist, a daughter, a woman, and a survivor. It will leave you with a sense of triumph and a song in your heart.
