Senior Prom 2026: Pink Pony Rodeo Takes Over the Center (Photos)

The Center’s Senior Services program celebrated Pride Month on Friday with the highly anticipated annual Senior Prom dance. The event brings together residents from the Center’s two senior housing complexes and participants from other Senior Services programs for a night of dancing under the stars.

Attendees donning boots, cowboy hats, and pink bandanas crowded Pride Hall and the Bayard Rustin Plaza, in keeping with this year’s Pink Pony Rodeo theme. The annual tradition invites community members to dance, make new memories, and experience the joy of prom as their full, authentic selves.

This year’s event featured dinner and dessert prepared by the Center’s intergenerational Culinary Arts team. A coronation ceremony honored a royal court made up of the most senior individuals in attendance, while special performances by Dolly Parton and Shania Twain impersonators kept the crowd on their feet throughout the evening.

Senior Prom: LGBTQ+ Seniors Get the Prom of Their Dreams

For many attendees, the Center’s annual Senior Prom is an opportunity to experience the kind of joy and affirmation that may not have been accessible earlier in life. For others like Dei Harris, who also participates in other Senior Services programs like support groups and weekly Jiu-Jitsu classes, Senior Prom is a chance to celebrate Pride alongside newfound friends and community.

“The people here are so down to earth and just so generous with their friendships, with their time, with their energy, and just really caring. And the staff here is amazing,” said Harris. “I’ve never had this kind of support as an out person before.”
