Los Angeles LGBT Center on Laphonza Butler’s Forthcoming Senate Appointment
LOS ANGELES– October 2, In response to Gov. Newsom’s pending appointment of Laphonza Butler to the United States Senate, Los Angeles LGBT Center CEO Joe Hollendoner issued the following statement:
“The Los Angeles LGBT Center applauds Gov. Newsom’s forthcoming appointment of Laphonza Butler,” said CEO Joe Hollendoner. “We are proud Ms. Butler will makeLGBTQ+ history in our great state, as the first lesbian Black woman to join Congress in US history, and are excited to see how her experience in the labor, women’s, and LGBTQ+ movements coalesce to inspire her work in the Senate.”
“Sen. Feinstein left large shoes to fill—as a champion for our community in the wake of Harvey Milk’s passing, and as an inspired political leader who advocated for us during the HIV/AIDS crisis and the freedom of marriage,” Hollendoner adds. “I am so proud that the state is honoring her legacy with the appointment of Ms. Butler, who already has a proven track record of advocating for hard-working Californians.”
