The Center Announces Laverne Cox as Headlining Speaker at ‘Trans Liberation Now!’ Rally in Hollywood on April 5

The Emmy-nominated actress and LGBTQ+ activist will serve as the rally’s keynote speaker in support of trans rights and liberation

LOS ANGELES, March 27, 2025—The Los Angeles LGBT Center will host Trans Liberation Now! on Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—a large-scale rally to celebrate and advocate for transgender liberation. Laverne Cox will serve as the rally’s headlining speaker, encouraging the community to unite and protect the trans, nonbinary, intersex, and non-conforming (TGNBI+) community.

Laverne Cox has been a powerful champion for LGBTQ+ rights, particularly for the transgender community. She made history as the first openly transgender woman of color to have a leading role on a major television series, breaking barriers for transgender representation in mainstream media. Through her work as an artist and advocate, she continues to inspire and uplift the community, using her platform to amplify the voices and inclusion of transgender individuals worldwide.

“Trans liberation is not just about survival—it’s about joy, power, and the right to live freely and authentically,” said Laverne Cox, award-winning actress and advocate. “I am proud to stand alongside the Los Angeles LGBT Center and the incredible LA trans community in this fight for justice. At a time when our rights are under attack, we will not be silenced. We will rise together, raise our voices, and show the world that trans lives are powerful, valuable, and unstoppable.”

Trans Liberation Now! is a dynamic rally celebrating the joy and fortitude of the TGNBI+ community. In partnership with Trans Latin@ Coalition, Advocates for Trans Equality, and Equality California, the event will focus on solidarity and tangible action in the face of harmful anti-trans policies. As the fight for trans rights continues, the Center invites peer organizations nationwide to join in the movement, and host parallel events to amplify the collective call for justice, equality, and visibility for TGNBI+ people everywhere.

“We are thrilled to have Laverne Cox join us as the keynote speaker for Trans Liberation Now!,” said Los Angeles LGBT Center CEO Joe Hollendoner. “Her fierce advocacy and unwavering commitment to trans visibility and equality embody the very essence of this movement. Laverne’s presence sends a resounding message: trans people are here to stay, to thrive, and to lead. Together with our incredible partners and advocates, we will continue to fight for justice, dignity, and liberation for all.”

As part of the Center’s community mobilization efforts, attendees will also have the opportunity to engage with local organizations at a TGNBI+ Resources Fair, offering advocacy tools, health and social services, and more.
