The Los Angeles LGBT Center’s OUT Under the Stars summer outdoor film series, held at the iconic Hollywood Forever, returns on Friday, June 21, with a showing of the John Waters’ 1988 cult classic Hairspray, starring Divine, Debbie Harry, Sonny Bono, Jerry Stiller, Leslie Ann Powers, Colleen Fitzpatrick, and Michael St. Gerard, among others.

Ricki Lake, who portrayed Tracy Turnblad, will make a special appearance prior to the screening.

“When I think of Hairspray, I think of camp’s ability to disrupt the status quo. Nothing beats John Waters, Divine and, of course, Ricki. So many of these ‘60s themes remain relevant today. Dancing your way past bigotry to liberation with Tracy, Link, Seaweed, and Motormouth is the perfect way to celebrate Pride,” said Rani DeMesme-Anders, staff liaison for Center membership and the Los Angeles Women’s Network. “Get OUT and support the Center, and get down for integration forever at Hollywood Forever!”

Ticket holders of the VIP Package for Two (2) will receive early entry to the venue at 6 p.m.; one complimentary drive-on parking pass; reserved premier seating for two; a picnic package which includes snacks; meet-and-greet with Ricki Lake; and access to the hosted Tito’s Handmade Vodka cocktail bar.

General admission doors open at 6:30 p.m. with screening scheduled at 8:30 p.m.

All proceeds benefit the Center’s work to build a world in which LGBT people thrive as healthy, equal, and complete members of society.

“John Waters’ comedy flick set in 1962 Baltimore—his hometown—stars some of the most iconic, campiest performers of all time: Divine, Debbie Harry, Sonny Bono. I’ve always wanted to watch the original on the big screen, and I can’t wait to see a young Ricki Lake as she makes her film debut with those legendary dancing moves,” said Kimberly Fisher, staff liaison for Center membership and the Center’s Young Professionals Council. “So, dust off your gogo boots, spray on the Aqua Net—my absolute favorite hair product during show choir in high school!—and pack a picnic for a cult classic screening you don’t want to miss out under the stars!”

Tickets for the event are currently on sale at lalgbtcenter.org/movie.
