Transgender Economic Empowerment project - Los Angeles LGBT Center

About the Center Transgender Economic Empowerment project

If you’re seeking economic support, the Center can help. The Center's Transgender Economic Empowerment Project (TEEP) offers a wide range of services to help gender-diverse people reach economic stability. We offer job readiness and career development services. We can also connect you with inclusive employers.

To address the disproportionate violence and discrimination faced by trans, non-binary, and intersex people, we provide:

  • Legal Services for community members who have faced discrimination in employment, housing, and medical care
  • Know Your Legal Rights workshops
  • Survivor Services for Victims of Crime
  • Assistance in obtaining a legal name and gender marker changes, and criminal record expungements
  • Immigration Legal Services

In conjunction with providing these legal services, and to address barriers to successful legal outcomes, we provide:

  • Case management coordination and referrals to affirming and culturally responsive resources, including job training and placement services
  • Assistance with applications for educational opportunities and social services
  • Financial Literacy workshops
  • Homeless outreach
  • And to further systemic change at institutions that have the greatest impact on our clients, we provide training and ongoing technical assistance to a limited number of social service agencies, government institutions, and businesses. These workshops provide the necessary tools to create a safer and more inclusive environment.

Topics include:

  • Best practices, with a focus on evolving local, state, and federal laws, and the changing cultural landscape for transgender, non-binary, and intersex people
  • Gender & sexual diversity, pronouns, terminology, transition guidelines, and how to create a harassment-free environment
  • Culturally-responsive entities are invited to attend Job and Resource Fairs we host throughout the year.

The Transgender Youth Employment Toolkit is a resource to prepare transgender youth for the workforce. The toolkit is available in print and online at
